Art Projects International is pleased to present a book, published in conjunction with a series of exhibitions and events at multiple venues, entitled Ten Years 1993-2003: Art Projects International to celebrate the gallery’s 10-year anniversary in New York.

The book Art Projects International: Ten Years follows the growth of the gallery Art Projects International, and its emphasis on contemporary artists from Asia, in the context of New York City’s dynamic and ever changing art world. In this recent period of increased interest in contemporary Asian art, API has been at the forefront, introducing new and significant artists from diverse cultural backgrounds. On an international level, there has been a proliferation of specialized art biennials as artists from many countries become increasingly transient. Readers interested in issues related to global contemporary art, the inadequacies of expressions like “Asian art,” and understanding how API has addressed such concerns through its programs, will find the book informative and thought provoking. In Art Projects International: Ten Years well-known critics offer their views of API and on contemporary art, culture and identity. A convenient timeline of the years 1993-2003 and numerous images of artworks and events give a well-rounded history of the period and the gallery.

The book includes writings by Saul Ostrow, Dean of Fine Arts and Chair of Painting, Cleveland Institute of Art; Jonathan Goodman, a New York based poet and art critic who contributes to Art in America, Sculpture, and Art Asia Pacific and teaches at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn; Margaret Sheffield, an art critic who contributes to Art in America and Sculpture and teaches at Bard College in New York; Xenia Tetmajer von Przerwa, a writer in the field of Contemporary Chinese Art and a Beijing correspondent for Art Asia Pacific; Yu Yeon Kim, an independent curator (Kwangju Biennale, Johannesburg Biennale); Philip Gould, Professor Emeritus, Art History, Sarah Lawrence College; Erik Bakke, a New York based artist and writer; April Kingsley, a curator at Kresge Art Museum; and the late Alice Yang, former Curator at the Parrish Art Museum.
