Jian-Jun Zhang in the Fourth Shanghai Biennale at the Shanghai Art Museum, China
In Jian-Jun Zhang's installation for the Fourth Shanghai Biennale entitled Sumi Ink Garden of Re-Creation (2002), he constructs a ten-foot tall sculpture of solid sumi ink and insisted that the viewer experience the pungent smell of ink, the sounds and kinetic sensation of dripping water, and the crunch of uneven bricks on the pavement.
