Zheng Xuewu, based in Beijing, has widely exhibited in China and more recently in the United States and Europe. Zheng’s, often large, works on paper are striking and labor intensive. On a single work’s surfaces, on a colored ground, Zheng will make thousands of prints from woodblocks he has carved, printing type, found stamps, and more recently Chinese papercuts; he finishes the work by painting into it by hand. Zheng’s unique aesthetic and harmonious amalgamation of techniques results in work that is immediately engaging.
